Windows Live

I just installed the windows live beta applications which include Windows Live Writer.  I successfully configured it to edit posts on this blog.  I’m using it to create this post.  Unlike the Wordpress editor, I can do things like use bold type, or italic, or underlined.

  1. I can also create ordered lists and bullets are on the menu but they don’t seem to work.
  2. Here's a link to my google blog.
  3. Here’s a picture:

  5. And here is a table:

  6. And here’s a map:

Move to Campus Domain at Bailey/Howe and Cook libraries

Last week, Paul and I met with Geoff Duke and Greg MacKinnon, about moving the library faculty and staff to the campus domain. I believe the public workstations will also eventually move from "zoodom" to the campus domain.

My first piece of work to implement this move is to take a complete inventory of our domain. I discovered a good tool for documenting user file permissions. It's showacls and the syntax is showacls /s d:\ except this doesn't work when it reaches the bhshares directory. Then it sort of goes into an endless loop so I have to document each share separately.

      DynDNS

I just purchased a paid addition of DynDNS. I'm not certain what the advantages of this are except for support and Host Update Logs.

Here is some information about loopback connections . A loopback connection allows you to browse to your websites URL without having to type in the local ip or localhost. This is nothing new for me except that I have rarely employed this method on windows--but frequently on Unix. It involves mapping the DNS name to a local IP in the hosts file which, in windows, is located at c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\Hosts.

      More on ScribeFire

After configuring ScribeFire for editing this blog on my work computer (Vista Enterprise 64), I am unable to configure it on my home computer (XP SP3), I get the javascript error: "the blogger service responded with an unknown error" after I enter my username, "kor.kiley" and password!
